How Intermittent Fasting Transformed My Life

Last month’s Full Moon inspired a profound change in my lifestyle. Following a powerful release ritual, I awoke with a newfound clarity of all that wasn’t serving me, intermittent fasting, and a resistance towards all animal products, out of nowhere!

I didn’t channel this, it just happened and due to my deep connection with my body’s cues and signals, I was able to recognize it and honor it.

The Shift to Vegetarianism

The journey towards vegetarian and more plant based, has released a lot of energetic weight that I was holding onto, without knowing and given me an even deeper connection to myself and spirituality.

This shift has brought about a higher level of consciousness and awareness of what I’m putting into my body.

This drastic release has been highly cathartic and led me to want to unravel and discover more enhancements in my mind, body and spirit.

The Unexpected Journey into Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. There are a plethora of benefits to IF, with some of the most popular being weight loss through rebooting your metabolism and mental clarity, but I was astounded by a ton of other benefits I hadn’t expected.

I was only just two days in and the benefits have been remarkable! From mental clarity, to more energy, better sleep, and lightness I feel in my body, there are a few things that I’m experiencing that I truly never expected and am loving!

I was highly intrigued by the way intermittent fasting has elevated my connection to my inner knowing, cues and needs on an even deeper level than I could have imagined.

Heightened Senses

From a tangible stand point, all of my senses are highly elevated. For example, I tasted a mango lassi (yogurt shake), that I typically drink daily, and it was too sweet for me! Everything I taste or smell, is more pronounced, in a great way. Eating a strawberry not only tastes 10 times better, but it feels like a beautiful spiritual practice. It takes mindful eating to a whole new level.

What’s amazing about these heightened senses, is that eating is such a more profound and incredible experience. (I realize I sound nuts, but it’s TRUE!). It’s like if you’re high or pregnant and everything tastes SO much better, it’s like that, but BETTER!

Increase Satisfaction and Joy Eating

I don’t even think about food during the intermittent fast and then my body has signaled to me when it’s actually hungry ironically exactly at the 16 hour mark! When I felt the hunger strike, it was honestly a great feeling as I realized I didn’t remember the last time I actually felt hunger! I am always eating because “it’s time to” or I “should”, but eating for hunger was way more satisfying and satiating.

More Selective and Deliberate with Food Choices

I’ve found that I’m so much more deliberate and selective about what I put into my mouth after not eating for 16 hours. Since I’m no longer snacking late night or in the morning and then when I’m finally able to eat, I don’t want to waste it eating suboptimal food. And since everything tastes even better, I want to taste great, real flavors. I want really nutrient dense, high quality food. No more goldfish or left over chicken nuggets going in this temple!

I feel Better – Better sleep, energy, mental clarity and weight loss

I haven’t stepped on the scale as it’s only been 2 days and I don’t think the read would be telling, but as crazy as it sounds, I feel lighter. I actually feel a bit more lean and can sense that I’m losing weight.

My sleep is better, my mental clarity is better and I have more energy!

I’ll update this as I progress, but I feel astoundingly better in my skin.

Heightened Joy & Clarity on Purpose

I genuinely find all my sensations and positive emotions are on another playing field. I feel heightened joy and gratitude and a more clear purpose.

I do believe the fast releases so much noise in our bodies that it gives us a heightened sense of clarity and makes us more purposeful not only with what we put in our mouths, but on our bodies, in our homes, how we spend out time and the energy we put out in the world.

There are a ton of incredible health benefits from Intermittent Fasting, but most of all I’m feeling generally more grounded, focused, embodied and anchored than ever before.

I am LOVING what I’ve experience in only 2 days and am definitely going to continue intermittent fasting for now.

It wasn’t hard at at all

Honestly, it wasn’t. In fact, it was freeing.

I eat around 6:30pm and put the kids down at 7pm. After the kids go down, I’m either working or in bed reading and then lights out by 9/9:30pm on the average weekday. So, I’m asleep a bit after I eat, which you should eat just before bed anyway. It disrupts sleep and impacts weight gain.

Then, in the morning, I get up and work out and by the time I get the kids sorted and ready and work a little bit, it’s already 16 hours later at 10:30am. I find that I get hungry right then, but I’m STARVING, so I need to prep my food earlier so it’s ready for consumption at that time.

Between the benefits I’ve felt from navigating this new veggie nourishment style with new food sources, recipes and macro ratios in order to determine the most supportive and feel good balance for my body in this season of life and experimenting with Intermittent Fasting, I’m excited to see the next level of transformation of joy and freedom I’m able to experience.

It’s an ongoing, never ending journey that we’re all on together! There’s never a finish line and that’s the beauty of it.
