How evening walks transformed my sleep

Natural Anti Stress Remedies For Happier Life

As a busy mom, don’t you feel like by the time you actually get to bed, it feels impossible to fall into a natural slumber because you’ve been on sensory overload and overdrive all day?

I have finally found the game-changing remedy to calm my body and mind at the end of the day to prime me for a peaceful night’s sleep!

If you are days are any way like mine, you may wake up with a teething baby crying, followed by your 4-year old insisting she wears a party dress to camp (when it’s still only 6 am and will be 95 degrees) and your 2 years old trying to proudly go pee pee on the potty, but she does it right on the floor, your baby eating the dog’s kibble and the dog is barking incessantly to be let out to pee. Top of the morning to you too!

The days can often continue at this pace and end feeling like a whirlwind. No matter how perfectly my days are organized, with 3 little ones, by the end of the day. I often feel like I just got out of a battlefield. Anyone else? By the time I put my last child down for bed, it’s time for mama to exhale. Typically, on a weeknight, it’s at this time that I have dinner with Jon. Then we wind down often separately as he is a night bird. Additionally, likes to stay up watching TV or working and I like to meditate and read in bed.

I had been feeling intuitively, like our nighttime routine needed a shift.

I didn’t feel like I was connecting with him as much, given that were both so tired at the end of the day. It was often just going through the motions at dinner and barely connecting. During dinner, we’re usually still in our autopilot mode and trying to tick the boxes of the day by giving ourselves sustenance. Almost as another “to do” before we have to clean up and then relax. I would often go to bed feeling like something was missing. But I was tired, so I figured it would be best to go to bed. Before bed, I typically write out what I’m grateful for (yes, I know, I’m super corny, but I SWEAR it opens my heart up thus allowing me to relax and sleep better), meditate and read.

But, I was still feeling a bit wound up when I’d get into bed and felt I needed more of a transition. While a bath can be good for that, I’m just not feeling it at the moment. It feels like kind of sloth and lazy if you know what I mean?  I think also, the idea of soaking in a tub of warm water when it’s 95 degrees out doesn’t sound appealing to me right now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m such a bath person and total have a cabinet full of lavender bath salts, fizzy balls, potpourri, you know, all that stuff, but for me, right now, I’m just not feeling it.

We decided to start going for walks after dinner when the kids are asleep.

It’s been a GAME CHANGER.  I’m not exaggerating one bit. We take Chego and go for like a 45-minute walk in our neighborhood that’s filled with big gorgeous trees.  We run into neighbors walking their dogs and it’s the best reset ever. I can literally feel Jon’s stress slipping away from the day. We both feel a release of all the days tensions, connect on random little things, or even just walk without talking and BREATHE.

It’s as if we’re given a space to transition into the next phase of the day. We release the many thoughts that just minutes prior hijacked our minds.  It feels just like an evening shower after a sweaty day in a park with the kids, where it feels like heaven.  Literally, it’s the exact same feeling for my mind, heart, and soul, where I can literally feel my parasympathetic nervous system calming down. It feels like I hit an “evening reset” button. Anything that has been weighing on me has just melted away at the press of a button.

I believe it to be one of the best Natural Anti Stress Remedies

When I come back from the walk, it’s like my heart has been lifted, my soul feels connected, my mind is at peace and my body is relaxed.  I take a shower, read for 20 minutes and I swear, I can barely keep my eyes open. My eyes close the moment my head hits the pillow and I fall directly into a deep slumber not to wake until morning. The sleep is so good that I  wake up refreshed, even at 4:45 am.

Now, historically, I’m not a great sleeper. I often need to use all sorts of natural remedies and things to help me sleep and even then. I’m never confident that I will get a solid night’s sleep. Though I do have some great hacks that have helped me tremendously that I’ll share in another post. There are a  number of Natural Anti Stress Remedies but, this walk has literally knocked every single remedy I have out of the park. No exaggeration.

I urge you to give it a try and let me know how it goes! If Jon doesn’t want to go or we don’t have the pair, I just go on my own. It’s a great time to call a friend, listen to a podcast or music, or just walk. I always come back feeling like my mind is at peace and with a smile.

How are you sleeping these days? What do you do to settle the mind and relax at the end of the day? Please share as I’m always looking for new hacks to try!
